You can teach your pet some instructions that will help it overcome some challenges that are present or the problems that may occur later.
SIT
It is the most straightforward dog obedience instruction to train your pet and one of the best tips to begin the process of training. Ensure you hold a delicacy in your hands close to the nose of your dog. Raise your hand in an upward trend and enable the head of your dog to follow the treat which will cause the lower part of its body to sit.
As soon as the dog is sitting down, say this word, “SIT” and hand the treat to the pet and show some love.
Make sure you try this method often each day.
COME
This obedience instruction can teach your dog how to stay out of trouble; it also ensures your pet come back to you when it is left off the leash, or the front door is left open. Place a rope and a collar on the neck of your dog. Bend down and whisper the word “Come” while placing the leash on its neck gently. Once the dog comes to you, give it a treat and affection. If you notice that the pet has understood the leash technique, take the leash off and repeat the process in a fenced environment considered safe.
DOWN
This technique is one of the complicated methods in dog obedience training as the position is a posture that requires submission. If your pet is the anxious type, you may need to ensure the training process make your dog feel comfortable and relaxed.
Hold a sweet smelling delicacy in your fist closed; take the closed fist closer to the nose of your pet. As soon as your pet perceives that smell, bring your hand down, and it will follow the trend of your hand. Move your hand along the ground to enable its body to align with its head movement.
When the dog is in the down position, whisper the word “Down,” offer him that delicacy and show affection.
STAY
You need to be sure that your pet has mastered the “SIT” command before you begin the process of the “STAY” position.
You start this procedure by telling your pet to sit down. Open your hands and say “Stay.” Move backward and offer your pet a treat with love if he stays in that position.
Increase the number of steps in the next phase before offering your dog another treat. Ensure you provide your puppy with a delicious treat each time it stays put even if it did not stay there for a minute.
This training will teach your pet self-control and a process that requires patience and time.
LEAVE IT
This training will ensure the safety of your pet when it gets curious. The essence of the technique is to train your dog that he gets rewarded for leaving the other stuff.
Take a delicious treat in your hands.
Show the dog a closed fist with a treat inside and whisper “Leave it.”
Your pet will try every method to get the treat by barking, licking, and sniffing, pawing and other stuff. As soon as your dog gives up, offer the treat from your other hand. Keeping trying this technique until your pet moves away from the first enclosed fist where you mentioned the word “Leave it.”
Give your pet the delicious treat as soon as he leaves the first fist and looks at you. If you notice your dog leaves the first treat and maintain eye contact each time you give out the instruction, you are getting there. You can make use of two different treats with one tasting good and the other having a nice savor and mouthwatering delicacy for your puppy.
Say the word “Leave it,” throw the treat that is less appetizing on the floor and cover with your hand. You can wait for your dog to snub that meal and have an eye contact with you. Give the sweeter treat to your pet and show love.
As soon as it gets the better treat, put the other treat that is not delicious on the floor but avoid covering it with your hands thoroughly. Just make sure you hold it a little bit above the meal. As time goes on, raise your hands higher till it is out of your pet’s reach.
Following these five guidelines will ensure the safety of your pet and enhance communication between both of you. It is an excellent investment of time and energy. Always remember that the dog obedience training period is a time-consuming session which requires patience.
